Career & Educational Opportunities For Beginners If you are interested in pursuing a career in music, you most likely can improve your talents by singing, performing and playing at every opportunity available to you where you live now: school music classes, choirs, band, orchestra, jazz band, bluegrass clubs at school, bluegrass association jam sessions & workshops, church and community choirs, local music theater productions, private lessons, attending music workshops and camps, entering talent shows, etc. If you're looking for a teacher, a good place to start is your local music store (that sells instruments and equipment pertaining to the type of music you want to perform), your school music teachers, and local college music departments. Listed below are some instructional tape, video and print resources that may help you, as well as a list of music camps that we are aware of. You also might take a look at theme park entertainment or theater work available to you in your local area. IBMA sponsors a Songwriter Showcase as a part of our annual Business Conference, with the purpose of introducing new bluegrass material to the industry. For more info on the next Songwriter Showcase, email us at nancyc@ibma.org. Click on the below titles for full a list of contacts and resources for each topic.
